Cartoon Ad

This is a clear example on how semanticist is used in cartoons. Semantics is the study of words, phrases and sentences. One can see that the word “Vocabulary” is written on that black board, implying that the class discussion will be on vocabulary. Then, when the student asks what the difference between ‘ignorance’ and ‘apathy’, the teacher replies “I don’t know, and don’t care”. Using word play, the teacher answered the students question by including “I don’t care”. This depicts the teacher’s apathetic view towards vocabulary. This is persuasive because one is more engaged to learn more vocabulary and not be “ignorant”.
